The last site is maximum impact. In this case the land uses on either side of the channel are flood-intolerant. The capacity of the channel at this point must be maintained. Fortunately, for the river, a 300' easement exists around the channel. If this could be purchased from the land owners, the channel could be physically widened to create a first terrace within which the river could begin to meander and create more diverse structure. This technique would be maximally damaging to any existing ecosystem, but in the long run, it could allow some semblance of a natural riverine system to develop.
