The fourth site is just downstream of the third and also bordered by flood tolerant uses. The objective here was to create pool structure in the channel as well as a swimming hole for recreaters. To do this, large logs are dropped in the stream and cabled to anchors in the banks (to keep them from washing away in a flood event). While this technique creates structure resembling the step-pools found in mountainous steams and is more appropriate there, the attempt in this series of projects is to try a variety of techniques which can be evaluated as the restoration progresses. One benefit of this technique is that the level of the channel is raised behind the structure, which should also raise the water table closer to its historic (unchannelized) state (comparison of the old remnant channel to the new reveals approx an 8-10 foot difference.)
